LOOK ME IN MY FACE

'LOOK ME IN MY FACE' is on behalf of everyone in an appearance-obsessed society who wants to be more than their body.

I want to connect with people I adore on a personal level. I want to see their inner light shine, and it does that in their aura, in their words, in their eyes and their smile.

We don't see inner lights shine through someone's tummy or their thighs.

Look me in my face for the same reason I look into yours... Because I care... deeply, about you: your opinions, what you notice about the world, how everything happening around you profoundly impacts you. You're complex. You're enough. You're utterly yourself. When I look you in your face, I'm not looking at or caring about your body, so it disappoints me when you reduce everything I have to be, everything I could be and all I want to be, to a number, size or figure. You can see an arm on my side. You can see a leg on my lower half. But the story it tells is not one you can see. It doesn't tell you that I'm kind. It doesn't tell you that I'm funny. It doesn't tell you that I'll never let you down if you need me to help you get back up. Beyond a body, if you look, you'll find me. And what you'll find are the parts about me you may learn to love, or not. But either way, you deserve to give me a chance to be something more than just something that's taking up space in the atmosphere, like every other body does. Isn't it dull? Isn't it plain? Isn't it unoriginal? So I wonder, why you comment on it as if it's something you have the right to know in the way I have the right to know about my body? You don't. Nobody does. Your body should be your precious business, the one you nourish in your way and the one you let walk your beautiful soul to and from places. If me feeding myself is as important to you as it should be, please let me do it in peace and instead be grateful for all of the things me feeding it allows you to experience with me: going on dates together, having conversations with each other as we gaze into the midnight stars or licking ice cream cones together at Central Park. I want to be there with you. Do you want to be there with me? Because when you make my body your business, I can't be there with you. I can't let it dance through sprinklers or run to you to hold you in the pouring rain.

I lose myself to my own tortured mind when you look me in my body, and you don't look me in my face.

A person's face tells a story. It tells a story of everything their eyes have seen before. It tells a story of who they are on the inside. When you think of talking to a person you love about your life, you don't think of how their body will look, you think of everything they'll say and imagine the face they'll make in shock, disbelief or excitement. I want someone to remember what my face told them the most about our relationship.

I'd feel inextricably hurt if, at the end of my life, to someone I cared about, my body were the most interesting thing about me.

For doesn't that entirely defeat the purpose of a meaningful life? ... To have a loved one find your body more outstanding than all of the beautiful things the pair of you talked about, reminisced over, laughed about in your time on planet Earth together? Look me in my face because you want to know everything my lips have to say. Look me in my face because you want to see me laugh hysterically with you. Look me in my face because you love me, above and beyond my body.

Look me in my face is for those who yearn to be free of the imprisonment their mind and others' minds have them encaged in. You don't have to ask to be more. You, inately, as you are, are as beautiful as your mind allows you to be.

Kisses,

COS x
